Resilience – Don’t Worry Be Happy
Spirit
Essential Living Blog
We made it through another year. I am happy, relieved, joyous, giddy, and any other content, hopeful adjective to add that 2022 is gone!! 2022 was a challenging year for me. First, I had s job change, and I’m still unsure if it was for the better. Second, my beloved dog Sasha died. Third, I had a septic tank issue that flooded my house. Fourth, I had electrical problems in my home also. As a result, my businesses stayed stagnant, and I didn’t write as much as I wanted to!
Whew. A lot, right? Well, I’m still alive. My health is good, and I was granted a new year to accomplish my dreams. My life, if anything, is good. I am evolving and coming into my own. (I will write more on coming into your own later in the year!) I’m excited about this year. A few years ago, I learned to stop making new year’s resolutions and pick one word or phrase to build upon the entire year. Well, I did both this year. My word is resilience. My dog Sasha reiterated that. (Check out my blog “Unconditional Love” to see more about it here). I realized that although I had many challenges this past year, I still stand. I’m still in my right mind. I still have a roof over my head and food in my refrigerator.
Do you know how many people lost their lives last year, not to mention those who died by suicide? Yes, life is good! My phrase is, “Don’t worry, Be Happy, you know like the song by Bobby McFerrin.
Since the Pandemic, I have done nothing but worry. Will I have the means to take care of myself? Will I have good health? Will my family be ok? I worried so much that I started losing my hair. I hadn’t had that happen since I was a teenager.
I had to stop and get still. Nothing in this life is worth worrying yourself into a slow death. Yes, life can be difficult. Yes, setbacks happen. However, you have a choice, do you wallow in it, or do you take those lemons and make the best damn lemonade you can?
Y’all people are dying left and right. These are not just older people. We have young men and women taking their lives. Nothing, and I mean nothing, is worth you taking your own life. Just know this, you are important, and you are enough. Do not let this world’s pressures take you out. You deserve to be here.
I challenge you to find your word or phrase for this year and stand by it. For example, I saw this quote and loved it:
“Forget dancing like no one is watching. Dance like a toddler. They don’t even care if there’s music.”
That is how you should live your life. Who cares who’s watching. Who cares if there’s any music. Who cares what other people think of you. This is your life, and live it to the fullest!
