50,372 and Counting

50,372 is now the death toll in the United States. This is the number of precious souls who lost their lives due to coronavirus. On April 20, 2020, the governor of Georgia, Governor Kemp, announced that he would allow barbershops, beauty salons, nail salons, bowling alleys, and tattoo studios to reopen on April 24, 2020, today. The governor will allow restaurants to open on Monday for dine-in.
These businesses are being allowed to open despite the federally mandated guideline that a state needs to show a 14-day drop in cases and deaths. Georgia hasn't reached that yet. In fact, Georgia has 21,102 confirmed cases and 846 deaths, with a little over 88,140 that's been tested. Georgia's population is 10.62 million. Yeah, do the math. Something is not computing.
He reopened Georgia, ignoring the cautions of the medical experts. Each one of them said it was way too soon to open. Why would he do that?
There's a theory floating around that because of the types of businesses opening first and the fact that the coronavirus is disproportionately affecting people of color, that the governor is using people of color as guinea pigs. I'm leaning towards that theory. Look at history. People of color are not valued in the United States, so we're expendable.
I implore you to use your common sense and do what's best for your families. Think of those 50,372 people who lost their lives. Think about their families and how they have to pick up the pieces without them. Think about the millions who lost their jobs, the millions who are going hungry because somebody didn't stay home and shelter in place. I'm sorry, but to me, every life is precious, and everyone deserves to live!
I know we are all compassionate and are looking for ways to help. I've decided to give $10 out of every unemployment check (yes, I said unemployment check) to www.feedingamerica.org. They are a hunger relief organization with a nationwide network of food banks feeding the hungry. The $10 I donate will feed 100. Please consider using your RAGE to help someone else in need!
Until next time – Enjoy the journey!
